Pre-rinse from the roof down
Full pressure pre-rinse before any contact. During wildfire season, this step runs 3–5 minutes to float ash off the surface before any mitt touches the vehicle. Skipping this step causes swirl marks — we never skip it.
pH-neutral hand wash — two-bucket method
pH-neutral soap in one bucket, clean rinse water in a second. We wash in sections, rinsing the microfibre mitt in the clean water bucket after every 2–3 panels to stop dragging collected grit back across paint.
Clay bar decontamination
The step that separates a professional exterior detail from a car wash. Clay bar removes bonded contaminants from the paint surface — road film, brake dust, industrial fallout, mineral deposits, tree sap, and wildfire ash residue that washing cannot remove.
Wheel and wheel well cleaning
Wheels, wheel wells, and brake calipers cleaned with pH-neutral wheel cleaner and dedicated brushes. Brake dust is one of the most corrosive contaminants on a vehicle surface and one of the most neglected areas in a standard wash.
Paint sealant application
Synthetic paint sealant applied by hand and buffed to a clear, high-gloss finish. Provides 3–6 months of UV protection, hydrophobic properties, and a layer of protection against the next round of Medford ash and brine.
Streak-free exterior glass
All exterior glass cleaned streak-free including windshield, side windows, rear glass, and any sunroof panels. Tire dressing applied to all four tires.

Foam Pre-Wash: Why We Soak Before We Touch
Before a wash mitt touches the paint, we cover the car in a thick foam that clings to the panels and loosens grit, dust, and ash. Rinsing it off carries most of the loose dirt away, so there is far less abrasive material left to drag across the clear coat during the hand wash.
Iron Decontamination and Clay Bar
Brake dust and rail dust leave tiny iron particles embedded in paint and wheels, and washing doesn’t remove them. Where the paint still feels rough after washing, we apply an iron fallout remover, which dissolves the particles and turns purple as it works, then finish with the clay bar to pull out the remaining bonded contamination.
Bug, Tar, and Tree Sap Removal
Summer drives on I-5 and OR-62 toward Crater Lake leave bug splatter that etches paint if it sits in the heat. Road-work tar and pine sap from Rogue Valley trees bond to the clear coat. We use dedicated bug, tar, and sap removers before the wash so nothing is scrubbed in. More in our guide to removing tree sap safely.
Hard Water Spots
Medford’s tap water is mineral-heavy, and drying spots can etch into the clear coat in the sun. Our final rinse uses deionized water, which dries spot-free. Fresh water spots come off during the exterior detail; spots already etched into the paint need machine polishing, covered by paint correction.
Wax vs. Sealant vs. Ceramic Coating

How Often to Book an Exterior Detail
Every 3–4 months keeps the sealant fresh and the paint protected. Book sooner after a wildfire ash event, after winter trips over the Siskiyou Pass, or before selling the car. Between details, the Monthly Maintenance Plan ($99/month sedan) covers a hand wash, vacuum, and window wipe.
