Our Process: How We Detail Your Car, Step by Step

What actually happens between the moment you book and the moment you get your keys back. This is exactly how we work on every car in the Rogue Valley, from the first message to the final walk-around.

📅 Updated October 2026⏱ 8 min read✎ Bear Creek Car Detailing Team

Since 2020, we’ve detailed cars, trucks, and vans in driveways, apartment lots, and office parking lots across Jackson County. Over that time we’ve settled on a process that we follow every single time. It’s built around three ideas: never cause damage while cleaning, tell you the price before we start, and don’t leave until you’re happy.

Here’s the whole process, step by step. If you just want the short version: book online, we confirm the price, we show up with everything we need, and you pay only after you’ve inspected the car with us.

Step 1

Before We Arrive

It starts when you book online. You choose the service and your vehicle size, and the price you see is the price on our pricing page. There’s no “call for a quote.”

When we confirm your booking, we ask a few quick questions so we bring the right products and plan enough time:

  • What’s the vehicle? Make, model, and size, plus paint color if you’ve booked paint work.
  • What’s the condition? Pet hair, kids’ car seats, stains, smoke smell, or heavy mud all change how long a job takes.
  • Where will it be parked? A driveway, street, apartment lot, or office lot all work. We just need a safe, legal spot with room to open the doors.
  • Anything you’re worried about? A coffee stain, a scuff, a smell. Tell us and we’ll focus on it.

The day before, we confirm your arrival window by text. We work 7 days a week, 7 AM to 7 PM, and most bookings are within the same week.

Step 2

Arrival and Walk-Around

We arrive in a self-contained van with our own water tank, filtered spot-free rinse water, power, and all our equipment. We don’t need your hose or an outlet, and we don’t leave a mess in your driveway.

Before we touch anything, we walk around the car with you. We look for existing scratches, chips, dents, curb rash, and interior wear, and we point them out so there are no surprises later. We’ll also ask you to take out valuables and anything you don’t want moved.

Then we confirm the scope and the price. If the car needs something extra, like heavy pet hair removal or a stain that needs more time, we tell you then and let you decide.

The price is confirmed before we start, and it never changes after the work is done.

Step 3

How We Clean the Exterior

Most paint damage happens during washing: grit dragged across the paint by a dirty mitt or a tunnel-wash brush. Our exterior process is designed to remove dirt without ever grinding it in. More detail is on our exterior detailing page.

1

Wheels and tires first

Wheels hold the worst grime: brake dust, road film, and tar. We clean them first with dedicated brushes and an iron-removing wheel cleaner, so that dirt never touches the paint mitts.

2

Foam pre-wash

Thick foam clings to the paint and loosens grit, dust, pollen, and ash. We rinse most of it away before anything touches the car.

3

Two-bucket hand wash

We wash top to bottom with a soft microfiber mitt and pH-neutral soap, rinsing the mitt in a separate bucket after every panel so grit isn’t dragged back across the paint.

4

Decontamination

An iron remover dissolves embedded metal particles from brake dust and industrial fallout, then a clay bar lifts bonded contamination like sap, overspray, and ash. Afterward, the paint feels smooth as glass.

5

Spot-free rinse and dry

A final rinse with filtered water, then we dry with air and plush microfiber towels. No chamois, no water spots.

6

Protect

We apply a paint sealant, dress the tires, clean door jambs, and finish the glass inside and out.

Step 4

How We Clean the Interior

Interiors get the same top-down, nothing-skipped approach. Here’s the order we work in. See interior detailing for the full checklist.

1

Clear out and remove mats

We take out the floor mats and any trash, and set aside personal items so nothing gets lost.

2

Air purge and vacuum

Compressed air blows dust out of vents, seams, and tight gaps, then we vacuum everything: seats, carpet, under the seats, and the cargo area.

3

Steam high-touch surfaces

Steering wheel, shifter, door pulls, buttons, and cup holders get steam cleaned to lift grime and sanitize the surfaces you touch most.

4

Shampoo and hot-water extraction

Cloth seats and carpets are shampooed, agitated, and extracted with hot water, which pulls dirt and stains out instead of pushing them deeper. See seat and carpet shampoo.

5

Leather care

Leather is cleaned with a gentle leather cleaner and finished with a conditioner that has UV protection, which matters in Medford’s summer sun.

6

Dash, trim, and glass

Dashboard, console, and door panels get a non-greasy UV-protective dressing, and every window is cleaned streak-free inside and out.

Pet hair, smoke smell, or heavy stains? We have dedicated tools and treatments for pet hair removal and smoke and odor removal.

Step 5 (if booked)

Paint Correction and Ceramic Coating

If you’ve booked paint correction, the car gets a full exterior wash and decontamination first. Then we inspect the paint under a bright detailing light to see swirls, scratches, and oxidation, measure where needed, and do a test spot to find the gentlest pad and polish that gets the result. Only then do we machine polish panel by panel, wiping each one down to check the true finish before moving on.

For ceramic coating, the paint is fully cleaned and corrected first, because a coating locks in whatever is underneath it. We then wipe every panel with a panel-prep solution to remove polishing oils, apply the coating in small sections, level it, and let it cure. Before we leave, we explain how to care for the coating during its first week.

Step 6

Final Inspection and Handover

When we finish, we check the car ourselves first, then walk around it again with you, inside and out. If anything isn’t right, we fix it on the spot. We’ll also take before and after photos if you’d like a record.

You pay only after that walk-around, once you’re happy, with contactless payment. If you weren’t home for the finish, we text you photos and let you know it’s done.

Step 7

Keeping It Clean Afterward

A detail lasts longer with a little care. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Hand wash, don’t tunnel wash. Brushes undo the work on your paint. A gentle hand wash with pH-neutral soap keeps the gloss.
  • Rinse off ash, sap, and bird droppings quickly. They do the most damage when left in the sun. See how to remove tree sap safely and our wildfire ash guide.
  • New ceramic coating? Avoid washing it for about a week while it fully cures, and keep it out of sprinklers if you can.
  • Use floor mats and seat covers if you carry dogs or muddy gear.
  • Book on a schedule. Our monthly detailing plan keeps the car clean without you having to remember. Not sure how often? Read How Often Should You Get Your Car Detailed?

Our Standards on Every Job

  • Hand wash only. No automatic brushes, ever.
  • Separate tools for separate jobs. Wheel brushes and towels never touch paint, and interior towels never touch the exterior.
  • Clean microfiber on every car. Towels are washed after every job, so we never bring the last car’s grit to yours.
  • pH-neutral, paint-safe products. Nothing harsh that strips wax or dries out trim.
  • Self-contained. Our own water and power, and we leave your space as clean as we found it.
  • Price first, work second. You know the price before we start, and you pay after you’ve inspected the car.

Our Process FAQ

How long does a full detail take? ▼
Most full details take 3 to 5 hours depending on vehicle size and condition. An interior or exterior detail alone usually takes 2 to 3 hours. Paint correction and ceramic coating can take most of a day.
Do I need to be home while you work? ▼
Only at the start and end, ideally. We do a quick walk-around with you when we arrive and again when we finish. If that isn’t possible, we can text you photos and arrange key handover in advance.
Do you need my water or electricity? ▼
No. Our van carries its own water tank, filtered spot-free rinse water, and power, so we can work in a driveway, at the curb, or in an apartment or office lot.
Will the price change once you see the car? ▼
We confirm the price with you during the walk-around before we start. If something unexpected comes up, like heavy pet hair or stains that need extra time, we tell you and ask first. The price never changes after the work is done.
When do I pay? ▼
After the final walk-around, once you’re happy with the result. We take contactless payment.
What if I’m not happy with something? ▼
Tell us during the final walk-around and we’ll fix it on the spot. That’s why we inspect the car with you before we pack up.
